ADELAIDE. Jan. 15. The city is greatly excited over the cricket test match. All. sports meetings and races within fifty miles of the city have been postponed to enable the sportsmen to see the match,' and a record crowd is expected. , The ,'weather is fine and I he wicket in first class condition. The teams have been, .selected as follow :• —■
Australia :—Collins, .A. Richardson, V. Richardson, Ponsford,- Taylor, Ryder, Oldfield. Andrews,. Gregory, :Mailey, and Kelleway, with Bardsley as twelfth man.
England : Gilligan, Chap'man, Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Hendren, Woolley, Hearne, Tate, Strudwick, Freeman aiid Kilner, with Whysall as twelfth man.
“TOSS” SUGGESTIONS.
LONDON, Jan. 15.
Lord Harris said in an interview that if Gilligan loses the toss at Aden laide he would approach the Board of Control with a suggestion that in future tests-, captains toss in the first, third and fifth matches, the loser of the first and third having the right of choice in the second and fourth games. He expressed the opinion that the counties would never agree to the tests in Erigland extending over alonger period than three days. /
\ CLAIMING TOO MUCH?
LONDON, Jan. 15.
P. F. Warner, interviewed, combated the idea that long Australian matches were dull. The bowling and fielding were always high class. The field was cunningly placed, and the batsman was constantly fighting for runs.. There was a thrill in every minute.
S. AFRICAN “TEST”
CAPE TOWN, Jan. 15.
The third, "test” was opened in perfect weather and on a good Wicket. South Africa in the first innings scored 113. (Catterall five, Syedle fourteen, Taylor eleven, Nourse thirty, Duff six, Bplton four, Buys, nil, Hall nil, extras twelve). Geary took 6 for 37.
England scored 164 for 4. (Bowley two, Holmes thirty-two, Tyldesley fifty, Russell not out, forty-eight; Mac-Bryan two, Tennyson not out, eighteen).
