A fire occurred at Ngahere about 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, when the residence of Mr A. Dempsey was destroyed by fire. Mrs Dempsey was in the back rooms ironing when she discovered that the front of the house was ablaze. The residence' was very old, and the fire had too big a hold to be extinguished. The building was so quickly enveloped in flames that nothing could be saved. Mr Dempsey js a heavy loser, as there was no insurance on either, house or furniture.

See the old year out and the new year in. Full stocks of funny, noisy 1 musical ihstruffients, jazzy band, magic flutes, kazoos, fanfare Paris'ieririe, sparklers, whistles, swanee whistles; etc., for New Year fun, go to A. E. Kilgour’s, the fun maker. —Advf.
