MIGRATION LOAN. SYDNEY, Oct. 18.
After a conference with the Minister for Lands (Mr Woarne), Mr Bruce announced that he had made available a half million sterling to New South Wales for migration.
SHIPPING DISPUTE. SYDNEY, October 18. The steamer Kawatiri has been detained at Newcastle for' a week owing to a dispute between the Company and the crew. So far the Company has failed to obtain a full crew at the New Zealand rate of wages.
INSURANCE AGAINST RAIN. SYDNEY, Oct 18. Novel insurance was effected by the committee of the Tatura Jubilee Show last week, when it insured against bad weather. The amount was two Iwndred pounds, the premium being £2O. It was agreed that the company was to pay if rain between six in the mornin" and noon amounted to ten points or” more. Actually fourteen points fell, so the committee gained from the company what it lost by attendance.
