HOCKEY

PLAYER’S BROKEN LEG.

(Per Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, September 13. Harold Bell, the Selwyn and Canterbury representative hockey player, has been admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with a broken leg. He received a knock on the shin while playing in a tournament on Tuesday, September 2, but thought very little of it. On the following Thursday he played again, though suffering a good deal of pain. He took the field for the final round on Saturday, September 6, but after a few minutes, collapsed and had to be carried off. A remarkable feature of the accident is that Bell remained active for almost five days, and played two hockey matches, in spite of the fact that his shin bone had been badly cracked. SOUTHLAND’S LATEST WIN.

DUNEDIN, September 14. At ladies’ hockey, Southland defeated Otago by two goals to one.
