COBDEN NOTES
(Own Correnponden* )
As the polling day approaches, interest in the election for members of the Town Board for the coming term is increasing. Ratepayers will be asked to decide the matter of a suitable sanitary service, and it is to be hoped that a large poll will be taken and so give encouragement to those who give their time to these matters. In addition to the Town Board election and sanitary poll there will be an election for one member each to the Power Board and Grey Hospital Board respectively, and most interest will centre in the Power Board election, where the sitting member, Mr J. Taylor, will be opposed by Messrs Uddstrom and Turley. The local School Committee are apparently a live body. At present their chief efforts are centred on the shifting of the Gymnasium, and this morning the great disabilities of the ground were pointed out to the Canterbury Board members visiting the Coast (Messrs Winsor and Gow). It is understood that the Government is to be approached in the' matter, as the present watercourse, if left in its present state, will be a real menace to the health of the community should we have a prolonged dry spell. It is reported that several Cobden properties ’ have recently changed hands, and it is more than likely tnat a few more residences will be commenced in the near future. Although early in the season, several good whitebait catches are reported. Indeed, several lads have earned quite substantial amounts from our annual visitor.
