FARMERS’ UNION
NGAHERE BRANCH MEETING.
A. meeting of the Ngahere district branch .of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held at the Ngahere Hall on Friday; present: The President, Mr W. Fisher (in the cMiir), Crs Donnellan, Baybutt, Carter, Messrs Donaldson, Donovan, Sadler, Burr, Dalziel, Cowan, Taylor, Kidd, Turner, Rf^hardsoA,, ,’McLaughlin, Costigan, G. Fisher, Furlong and J. Mulcare (hon. secretary). It was resolved to send to the Provincial Executive as a remit, that the Executive approach the Department to secure a reduction of freight on benzine from Christchurch for members of the Farmers’ Union.
Sheepi 'Dog Trials and Ploughing Match—lt was resolved, on the motion of Mr Mulcare, seconded by Mr Kidd, that a recommendation be sent to the West Coast A. and P. Association that they consider the holding of the sheep dog trials in conjunction with a Winter Show and School and ploughing matches at the Waimaunga State Farm on field day. It was also agreed upon that Miss Nancy Skinner be tile district candidate for Queen at the A. and P. Carnival, on the motion of the President, seconded by Mr Turner. A report on the past year’s work from Mr Dalgliesh, Fields Instructor, was considered. Mr Baybutt moved and Mr Donaldson seconded, that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr Dalgliesh, and that he be invited to attend the next meeting of the branch. It was moved by Mr Turner and seconded by Mr Cowan that the secretary be Instructed to secure a. visit from the Government veterinary surgeon at an early date. State Advances Department.—A remit to the executive re the working of this Department was ordered to be forwarded. A long discussion was held on this matter, members being unanimous that the administration of the Act by the present Government was disappointing, A case was cited of an application made some 12 months ago and the valuation some two months later, and bevond a letter to say that the application was being considered, the applicant had heard nothing further. There is no doubt that farmers want cheap money to develop and imnrove their farms.
A letter was received from the Minister of Railways re shed.—The secretarv was instructed to write to the Resident Engineer. After Mr Carter had solicited help from the branch with regard to the holding of a hospital ball, a. successful meeting was closed with the usual compliment to the chairman,.
