GREY SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Grey School Committee was held in the Rector’s room last evening. Present : Messrs J. Tennent (chairman), Scott, lAitken, Herring, Lamberton, and Pullen (secretary). The Rector’s report was read as follows :—The attendance since the vacation shows an improvement, but there are still many children absent through sickness. The average attendances are:—Main School 533 out of a roll number of 606; Blaketown 82 out of a roll number of 100. Miss'M. Davies is temporarily filling the position vacated by Miss Skoglund. As the warmer weather approaches it will be necessary to have ventilators in several of the rooms attended to. They were closed about a year ago with a view to having new adjusting rods replaced ; but apparently the work has been forgotten. The drinking bubbles also require attention, a.s only one is workable.
C. J. Blakey wrote asking if it were suggested that a Jubilee of the school be held. As an old scholar, he felt the occasion might be suitably celebrated, and that old scholars would be glad to take part. The Education Board wrote advising that Messrs Gow and Winsor, members of the Board, would pay a visit of inspection to the Greymouth schools on Monday next, and asking the members of committee to accompany them. The Treasurer reported that the bank balance was debit £4l 18s, and that there were ; a number of accounts outstanding in addition to the sum required for the installation of the heating system. Messrs Aitken and Lamberton were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
