BOWLING

DOMINION COUNCIL MEETING.

AVELLINGTON, September 10.

The annual meeting of the Dominion Bowling Association Council was held to-day, Mr F. Meadowcroft presiding. The report showed that there were eighteen centres, the clubs totalling 272 and the players 14,577. Mr R. AV. Shallcrass was elected secretary. Marlborough was empowered to form a new centre. Tauranga’s request for affiliation to Auckland Centre was granted. Rule 6, section 1, was altered to read:—“A bowl which in its original course comes to rest less than 20 feet from the front edge of the mat shall be dead.

One foot on the mat rule was altered to read: —One foot on the mat, and wholly within the boundaries of. the mat.”

It was decided that the minimum size of a mat .be thirty-six inches by fifteen. It was decided that singles, pairs, and rinks be played at the annual tournament, the singles to be played during the first three days, and the pairs on the following three days. GREY CLUB COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Greymouth Bowling Club Committee was held in the pavilion on Monday evening, September 8, there being present; Messrs J. Steer (chairman), W. Cochrane, AYGraham, W. Scott, J. Young, F. Lawn, G. Blackwood, G. D. Wilson, and D. McKay (secretary). A number of resignations were received,' mostly from members who hqve left the district.

The following sub-committees were appointed: — Ground Committee: .Messrs W. Cochrane (chairman). W. Scott, and E. Lawn. .. Match Committee: ‘G. Blackwood (chairman), W. Cochrane, arid W. Graham.

All members to act as a refreshment committee.

It was resolved that the chairman of the Ground Committee interview the green-keeper and if possible arrange to have the official opening bn September 24, or the first fine Saturday or Wednesday afterwards, if September 24 is not suitable.
