LOWER TAXATION.
SYDNEY, September 5.
After a State Cabinet meeting, to consider the Budget, Sir G. Fuller announced that there would be a reduction in taxation, which would be made known when the Budget is submitted. It is understood that the proposed easement will be in income tax and stamp duties. COMMONWEALTH LOAN SYDNEY, September 6. The new Commonwealth Loan is being raised for the States for public works purposes. Each • State undertakes to repay to the Commonwealth- annually 10/- per cent, of its loan towards the national debt Sinking Fund and to the redemption of the Commonwealth Debt..'
NEW CRUISERS.
MELBOURNE, September 5
In the House of Representatives, General Monash’s report in connection with the building of the-proposed new cruisers, was read. It was more favourable to construction in England than in Australia.
Mr Bruce made a statement that he intended to call fbr alternative tenders, firstly, building two in Britain and one in Australia; secondly, building by the same English firm, one in Australia and one in England, so- as to be able to compare the difference in cost; thirdly, for building one locally.
