AFGHANS FIGHTING
REFORM AND REVOLT.

DELHI, September 4.
There has bqen sporadic but fierce fighting between the Indian frontier and Kabul, amongst the Afghan rebels and State forces. The rebellion is the outcome of a movement for reform in the system of government, but is recesiving scant tribal support.
Advices from Peshawar state that one of the leaders of the reform movement was stoned to death in prison at Kabul, after months of torture. The rebellion is under the leadership of the Pretender to the Afghan Throne.
BRITISH OFFICER KILLED.
DELHI, September 4.
Lieut. Lawrence, of the West Yorks, attached to the Yamen Infantry as Assistant Political Agent, was murdered at Perin. His property was rifled and stolen. The murder is believed to be the work of Arab irregulars.
