REEFTON NOTES
(Own Correspondent.)
REEF'tON, July 8. A fire occurred at Mi* Mathias’ residence, Broadway, about 5.30 last evening, but it was soon extinguished by willing helpers. The fire originated from a range that wals only set in that afternoon,.
Mr M. Fagan, for the last 15 years secretary of the Miners’ Union, and Workmen’s -Inspector of Mines, has sent his resignation in to the committee, and at a meeting on Saturday last it was accepted with regret. The hope was expressed that he would reconsider it and, with the help of an assistant, retain office. Mr Fagan has been a peculiarly suitable official for the position, being a practical miner, as well as a good advocate in the Arbitration Court, and has been responsible for the amendment of conditions of workers underground. Mr Fagan has not enjoyed the best of health for some time past.
