VALEDICTORY

MR R. G. CAIGOU. After seven years! service with the Public Works Department at Greymouth, Mr R. G. Caigou has been transferred on promotion to Wellington. During his stay at Greymouth Mr Caigou has been prominently associated with several, public matters, notably the War Memorial Cenotaph, and the War Memorial Gates at the State School, and his professional knowledge made his services particularly valuable in the preparation of designs, etc. Mrs Caigou has a!lso been well known, having taken a prominent part in musical activities, particularly as organist at ithe Methodist and Anglican Churches at various times. A number of friends met at the Municipal Chambers yesterday afternoon to farewell Mr Caigou, and speakers paid many tributes to his professional and personal attributes. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Parfitt) presided, and other speakers were Messrs E. Ashton, (War Memorial Committee), W. F. G. Pullen (School Committee), J. D. Gillies (Resident Engineer. Public Works Department), INelson, and H. F. Doogan, who asked Mr Caigou to accept four specially selected books as a memento of his stay at Greymourh. Mr Caigou returned thanks on behalf of his wife and himself. Several toasts were honoured, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem followed. Mr and Mrs Caigou and.. family left by to-day’s express en route to Wellington.
