THREE COMMUNES RUINED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) ROME, December 2. Three Communes in the Bergamo Province have been practically destroyed by floods, following on the bursting of. a 'dam. The damage is estimated at several hundred million
lire. Five power stations have been destroyed, and a vast area of rich agricultural land has been destroyed. The disaster i due to abnormal rains. The river Dezzo overflowed, and simultaneously the dam burst. The flood was thirty feet in depth. Rescue operations are most difficult owing to the interruption of all means- of communication. MANY LIVES LOST. ROME, December 3 Details of the Bergamo disaster show the damage and loss of life were greater than at first; surmised. The village of Dezzo, two miles from the dam, was entirely destroyed, only seventeen being left out of four hundred inhabitants. 137 BODIES FOUND. ROME, December 3.
