Time 2.11 4-5. THE RACING DESCRIBED. (Special to “Star.”) CHRISTCHURCH, November 9. The weather was again fine for the concluding day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Meeting, and the attendance very large. Following are the results :—

—Governor’s Handicap—

Lady Nan justified the public confidence in the Governor’s Handicap, while Nelson Bell, The Squire and Peter McMillan were also well backed. When half a mile had been covered Earl Derby was just behind Lady Nan, with Peter McMillan and Laurier next. A little further on Laurier dropped back, but the other three were still showing the way when the straight was reached. Lady Nan went on to win easily by four lengths, while Peter McMillan beat Earl Derby by two lengths. Mushroom was fourth. —Enfield Handicap — Auguste Dillon was installed favourite for the Enfield Handicap, but he was beaten by outsiders in Stockade and Tobermory. Going down the back Tobermory was just clear of Tommy Direct, William the First and Phil Smith. A little further on Stockade ran up to Tobermory, and these two turned for home four lengths in front of William the First and Auguste Dillon. A good finish saw Stockade win by a bare length from Tobermory, with August Dillon four lengths away, and William the First two lengths further back. —Christchurch Handicap— The public were not disappointed in selecting Don Wild for the Christchurch Handicap. Taraiie, Paul Dufauit and Realm were next in demand. Gleaming began smartly, but at the end of two furlongs Don Wild was just behind him, with Tatsy Dillon and Ouimet next. Passing the stand, Don Wild took the lead. This was the order for the first mile, where Paul Dufauit and Trix Pointer had closed up to the front branch. Starting on the last lap Don Wild was closely followed by Gleaming, Tatsy Dillon, Paul Dufauit and Trix Pointer in that order. Leaving the straight Paul Dufauit moved up and half a mile from home Don Wild was two lengths in fx-ont- of Gleaming and Tatsy Dillon, with Paul Dufauit another length away, and Taraire moving up fast from the back. Three furlongs from home Don Wild had Tatsy Dillon as his nearest attendant, while Gleaming was next, with Taraire, Paul Dufauit and Trix Pointer not far away. A fine finish resulted in Don Wild beating Tatsy Dillon by half a length, with 7’rix Pointer two lengths further back, just in front of Taraire and Gleaming. —Australasian Handicap—

The outsider of the field in Wallroon came to light in the Australasian Handicap. Dolly Dillon and Prospect (coupled), Oaknut, Fashion Queen and Arran Lad were best backed on the machine. As the concluding circuit was entered Wallroon had a useful lead from Oaknut, Dolly Dillon and Prince Burlington. Easily holding his advatnage over the concluding stages, Wallroon won by nearly two lengths from Oaknut. Eight lengths back came Dolly Dillon, followed by Peter Diac, Arran Lad and Prince Burlington.

—Dominion Trotting Handicap.—

Native King paid a good dividend in the Dominion Trotting Handicap, the public selecting Lee Norris, Young Blake, Pete Peter, and Sunny Jim. Half a mile from home Native King had a long lead from Young Blake, who in turn was ten lengths in front of Delville Wood, with Sunny Jim, First Fashion and Lee Norris next. Native King was never troubled and he won easily by a dozen lengths from First Fashion, who finished fast and beat Young Blake by a neck. Delville Wood was three lengths away, followed by Gay Wilkes.

—Hornby Handicap—

Bonny Logan, Hayseed, Countryman, Fernmoor and Fancy Boy were supported in that order for the Hornby Handicap. As they tinned into the straight Fancy Boy drew out and won comfortably by two lengths from Bonny Logan, who finished very fast over the last two furlongs and beat Olive lluon by a similar margin. Cammie was a head away fourth, with August Dillon next.

—Lyttelton Handicap—

In the Lyttelton Handicap the public went for Willie Logan, Flora Golding and Oratorio in that order. At the mile post Oratorio ran to the front, while going down the back stretch Copa de Oro Junior ran up to Oratorio, the others being headed by Coldwater and Flora Golding. Racing for the straight Oratorio held his lead to the finish and won easily by two lengths. Willi© Logan, finishing fast, was two lengths behind Flora Golding,

with Coldwater and Copa do Oro Junr. next. —Sprinters’ Handicap— Willie Lincoln paid a decent price in the Sprinters’ Handicap, being ninth favourite. Three furlongs from home Vilo and Tatsy Dillon fell, a number fo horses behind them being seriously interfered with. This left Sir Henry, Paul Dufault and Willie Lincoln with a long lead. Sir Henry was first into the straight, but ’Willie Lincoln, finishing very fast, won by four lengths. Paul Dufault just lasted long enough to beat Logan Chief by a head, with Happy Voyage next. SPECIAL NOTES ON RACING. (Special to “Star.”) CHRISTCHURCH, November 9. Nine high-class handicap horses faced the starter in the Christchurch Handicap, Don Wild being favourite and having a slight call in the betting over Taraire, with Paul Dufault and Realm| the best backed of the others. Paul Dufault began slowly and Taraire lost ground by refusing to begin correctly. Once the field settled down Don Wild was quickly in a good position. Passing the stand the first, time the son of Don Pronto and "Wild Duck was running second to Gleaming, but going out of the straight he assumed the lead and, easily holding his own, won with a little in hand from Tatsy Dillon, who ran her best race for some time past, but, like Don Wild, she had little left in reserve at the finish. Trix Pointer was always well placed and finished third. Once he got started on the journey Taraire paced a fine race, and it is a great pity the son of Four Chimes and Muricata does not get into his stride more quickly, as his waywardness at the post has lost him’ more than one important handicap. The New Brighton-trained pacer Gleaming ran well for a mile and threequarters, when he tired and was beaten out of a place. He pulled up sound and has only to remain sound to win some money. Paul Dufault lacked his usual dash, while Realm made no mistakes, but never got near the leaders. V ilo raced much below her best form.

Speculation was brisk in the Sprinters’ Handicap, the pool totalling 10,770 sovs. Happy Voyage was favourite, and there was solid support for Onyx, and the coupled horses Sir Henry and Trix Pointer. The race was robbed of considerable interest, as three furlongs from home Vilo fell and brought down Tatsy Dillon. The mishap also interfered with Albert Cling, Trix Pointer and Logan Chief. Assisted by a clear passage, Willie Lincoln (Dave Bennett) had matters all his own way over the last two furlongs, but had to be driven out to beat Paul Dufault. The short iourney was more to the liking of Paul Dufault than a race over two miles. Logan Chief ran a good race considering that he met interference. This marked his sixth start this season, rfnd each time he has finished in a place, his record being three firsts, twice second and once third. Happy Voyage did not begin with his usual brilliancy, and the accident no doubt prevented him from doing his best. Onyx had every chance, but was not equal to the occasion.
