RETURN FROM ARGENTINE.

(Per Press Association.) TE KUITT, November 9. At the Magistiate’s Court, William Farellv, aged' 39, who gave his occupation as a farm manager, former j at Waimiha. ami now oi Auckland, was charged before Messrs J. McCairol and G. Churcher J s I’., on 12 counts of having on divers dates between June 1920, and August IJ-1, converted to his own use a sum of money totalling £522 10,5. Detective-Sergt. Cameron, of Wellington, for the prosecution, said that accused was employed by Mair anc Co. to manage a farm at Waimalu. He had power to draw cheques on behalf of the farm. He had misused this authority, and had posted forged receipts to his employer. On one occasion he had been authorised to sell 200 sheep, but had actually sold 400, for which he received payment. Cheques were made out in favour of Mair and Co, but accused had placed a. portion of the amount to his own credit, at the Union Bank. The Bank authorities made an investigation and misappropriation was discovered. Accused was to orig'nally at le Kuiti for trial on February, 1921. When he was out on bail, he absconded to the Argentine, the bail being estreated. Returning to the Dominion recently, however, he had surrendered to the police, and had made a confession admitting all. Accused pleaded guilty. He was committed for sentence to Auckland Supreme Court on November 24. Bail was fixed at £lOOO. It was forthcoming.
