MISCELLANEOUS.

At Cardiff recently, Thor Lukin, master of the Norwegian tseamer Eidsfjed, was summoned for having allowed the vessel to be loaded as to have her load-line submerged. Evidence was given that the steamer brought a cargo of timber from a port in the White Sea, and when she arrived at the Itoath basin, at Cardiff, the offence was discovered by the Board of Trade officers. It was contended for the defence that the steamer experienced severe weather and shipped heavy seas, with the result that the deck cargo of dry timber absorbed water and thus increased the weight. The stipendiary imposed the maximum fine of £lOO, with £l5 costs. AT OTHER PORTS. WANGANUI, November 8. Arrived at 8.5 a.m., Waimea, from Greymouth. PORT NELSON, November 7. Sailed, Regulus, for Westport. TARAKOHE, November 7. Arrived, Orepuki, from Greymouth. FIRE ON STEAMSHIP. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assoctetion) PERTH, November 7, A wireless message has been received from the steamer Koranna, enroute from Melbourne to an African port, laden with grain, stating that a fire is raging in her No. 3 hold which is full of coal. The vessel is in the Indian Ocean, racing for Albany. It is surmised the position is serious, as she is at least 24 hours •steam from port. The Koranna is a hot of 3,585 tons, and is owned by the Ellerman and Bucknell Company.
