OMOTO NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.)

The monthly meeting of the Omoto and Kaiata School Committee was held in the schoolroom last evening Mr Cohen presiding. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Canterbury Education Board re material for fencing in the school ground. A book of by-laws for use of the committee was also received. It was decided to write at once to Mr H. J. Bignell, Chairman of the Board, and forward a list of material required, with a request that they be procured as early as possible to enable a start to be made with the work. The Secretary reported that he had received a cheque from the Grey County Council for the use of school room as a polling booth at the recent elections. The teacher reported the attendance had been very good, an 1 keen interest taken in the work. The monthly meeting of the Omoto ami Kaiata Ratepayers Association was also held in the school room, Mr Cohen presiding over a large attendance. The Town Clerk (Mr Denton) wrote stating that the Association s request to have the borough portion of Omoto Road put in order had been referred to the Works Committee. Nothing so far has been done but it is hoped the roller will soon be put on tlie lower portion of the quarry hill. This is the part mostly requi ring attention. It was resolved that the County Council be .written to re a piece of road which is continuously slipping and advise that the inside part of the bend be banked so as to allow traffic to keep closer to the hill which would prevent the road from slipping as at present. A set of rules drawn up by Mr Kent for use of the Association were adopted. Several horses are now being worked on the Omoto course. Trainer Tom 'Cameron is getting I e Forte into action again, after wintering very well and should give a good account of himself at the midsummer meetings. < Mr Jas Blewman, a Local sport, is spending a holiday in Christchurch.
