LIQUOR POLL

CANADIAN “WET” VICTORY (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) OTTAWA, November 6. Alberta voted for Government control of liquor sales and the open sale of beer by licensed premises, by about twenty thousand majority over the prohibition law, which has been in force there for seven years. The farmers, usually opposed to it voted heavily for moderation. The only district favouring 1 prohibition was the Mormon area of Cardston. The figures are incomplete, but the result is clearly indicated. The legislature will meet as soon as possible to draft legislation. Prohibition will probably continue to be the law of Alberta for several months. Alberta is the fourth Canadian province to revoke wartime prohibition. BRITISH SHIP CAPTURED NEW YORK, November 5. A message from Jacksonville, Florida, states the British auxiliary schooner “Louis” was captured by the prohibition officers within the 12-mile limit, after a three hour chase. Liquor valued at 375,000 dollars was confiscated, and the crew were arrested.
