’ MEETING OF COUNCIL. The meeting of the Grey Council took place to-day, there being P« sent the chairman (Mr J. M • Ha nan), Crs D. Baybutt, J. Byall, 1Donnellan, J. Greaney, and J. ir of the following Government payments was received. Halves and thirds, £499 18s 9d; Mam South Road, £235 18s 10d; Ahaura hndge, £l7O 0s 9d; Moana-Ruru Road, 10s; Goldfields Revenue, £l5l Us 8d; Subsidy on rates, £5OO. Promises that the apphcations io <n. ants on the Lady Lake-Bell Hill Road and Maruia Road would receive careful consideration were made by tne Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates). The letter Was received. An application from Mr James Lawrence, Kuinara, asking the council to accept half rates on a residence site on the ground that he had not been living on it for some time was received, and no action taken. The District Engineer (Mr J. D. Gillies) said that the Public Works Department refused to consider the council’s request for an additional grant of £59 for Fagan Creek Bridge An application from the Westland County Council that the council bear proportion of the cost of haring the county by-laws Tevifeed in jvn,ew of the institution of joint by-laws was referred to the County Solicitor (Mr W. J. Joyce) to report to the next meeting of the council. Messrs Allen and Kinsella, of Blackball, wrote stating that 'they were prepared to assist the Atarau Sawmilling Co. in repairing the Moonlight road. “That is very satisfactory, n said the chairman.
