AIR COSGRAVE RE-ELECTED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON, September 19. Considerable public interest was shown m the opening of the new Dail Eireann at Dublin this afternoon. .All the members were present, except the Republicans. The sitting lasted two hours. Air Cosgravc was re-elected President. Professor .Michael Hayes was elected Speaker. An appeal was made that the Republican Deputies, most of whom are still in gaol, should be given an opportunity of meeting to decide whether the would abandon their militant methods. Attention was also drawn to the allegation of the ill-treatment of prisoners al Mount Joy Gaol. A number of women, headed by Airs Despard and Airs Maud Gonne AleBride, attempted Io demonstrate outside, carrying banners, bearing legends such as “Six hundred prisoners hosed, ami beaten in Aloiintjoy !” Tim police nmved the demonstrators <.n. Mrs Mcßride shouted : “My son is being murdered al. Mountjoy!”
