MEN DECLINE TO RESUME. ("Sydney Sun” Service.) NLW YORK, September 19. ’The President of the Pressmen’s Union admitted that there was no sign of a response to his repeated orders to the men to return, threatening them with the cancellation of the Union’s charter if there were more delay. Ten leading morning papers yesterday issued an eight-page combined edition. Each paper was distinguishable only because of its own type. There were no editorials and features, and the large display advertisements were eliminated. Publishers sent to other cities for pressmen, guaranteeing them a year’s employment. The President of the local Journalists’ Association declares that the pressmenf are working longer hours than in arty other newspaper trade, with unbearable conditions. Their earning capacity has decreased 35 per cent, from two years ago. Newspaper publishers informed the International Pressmen’s Union, of which (he striking New York Pressmen’s Union is a member, that they will have no further dealings with the strikers. This is tantamount to a lockout. The publishers further ask the International Union to issue a charter to a new local union, with which the publishers are willing to arbitrate on any questions. The newspaper meantime, will publish extremely limited edition of I lie combined journals with the aid of volunteer pressmen.
