REEFTON NOTES
(Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, Sept. 13. The death took place at the Reefton Hospital on Tuesday afternoon of Mr Daniel ■ James Kelly, a well-known miner. The deceased had recently been working at Waiuta, and came to Reefton at the end of last week, where his home was. He was taken to the Reefton Hospital, where an operation was performed. The late Mr Kelly was 59 years of age and a native of New Zealand and leaves a widow. Constable McNulty returned to Reefton; by the Christchurch express on Tuesday night, accompanied by his bride. The hockey match, Rewa (Nelson) Ladies’ Hockey Club v. Reefton Ladies’ Club took place on the Racecourse yesterday. The game was played in pouring rain. The visitors were outplayed, and the game ended in Reefton’s favour by seven goals to nil, Miss C. Brooks scoriilg no less than four. The game was played in a splendid sporting spirit. The visitors were the guests of the Shop Assistants’ Football Club’s dance last evening, and left for "VVb‘'-tnort this morning. The using of the footpaths by cyclists and the consequent danger to children at the school has caused the Reefton D. H. School Committee to ask the Inangahua Countv Council to pass a by-law making cycling on footpaths illegal. It is not before time either, as some of those cycling past the school seem to care neither for the children’s lives nor limbs, so excessive is the rate at which they travel. The Committee are also asking the Nelson Education Board to give them the management of the Technical School.
