CROOKS AT CHCH.

THEFTS AT HOTEL.

(Specie to “Star.”) CHRISTCHURCH, August 10. Grand National Week usually attracts large numbers of “crooks” to Christchurch, and already they have begun to ply their trade. On Thursday night, two North Island people put up at a well-known city liostel, and in the usual manner they left their clothing over the end of the beds and locked the door; also they left the electric light burning all night, but in the morning, despite these precautions, their clothing had been “gone through” and several pounds of money stolen. It looks as though a skilled hand was at work.
