Freeman took 7 for 37 and made 145. Sussex 259 and 169 drew with Notts 294. - Lancashire 347 and 29 for 0 beat Northants 174 and 201. In the championship, Yorkshire leads with 88 and 42 ; Notts, 87 ami 64 ; Surrey, 63 and 75 ; Sussex, 61 and 71 ; Kent, 61 and 11; Hampshire, 60 ; Lancashire, 58 and 88. The Players were all out for 228. They batted very cautiously. At one period, Hearne and Smith scored only 35 in an hour. Scores : Hearne (not cut) 69, Woolley, caught Gilligan, bowled White, 41; Smith, caught Fender, bowled Louden, 28 ; Kilner, caught White, bowled Stevens, 8; Tate, 0; Parkin, 6 ; extras 13. Louden took 5 for 49. Following on, the Players’ first wicket fell for 45, Hobbs being caught Lawry, bowled Stevens, for 20. Hearne (79) and Sutcliffe (78) carried the score to 190 for one wicket. ’I he match was drawn. An interesting feature of the season is the tour of a team from the West Indies, including several Blacks, who have displayed surprising!,y good form. Hitherto they have played seventeen matches, and won eight, including games, with Sussex, Oxford, Essex, Warwickshire. They' have lost four, against Cambridge, Hampshire, Middlesex ami Lancashire, and have drawn five, including Marylebone, Notts, Leicestershire. Of their men G. Challenger occupies eighth place in the firslclass batting averages with 44.30; Fernandez is 15th with 40.6. Francis is 16th in the bowling averages with 49 wickets for 16.97 run apiece.
