— — MON J iiLl .uEE 11NG. The monthly meeting of the Cobden Town Board was held last evening. Present: Crs. 11. IL Barrett (chairman;, A. \. Billett, C. Urams, D. Douglas and A. G. Gunn. Leave of absence through indisposition was granted Crs. \valker ami J. Jeffries. Hie North Beach road to the town District boundary was reported to be in need of repair, and it was resolved that a contract be let to put same in repair to correspond to condition of County road northward of the Town District boundary. It was resolved that footpath in Bright Street from Carey’s to Blackett Street be repaired where necessary in preparation lor summer tarring. ine roadman advised dangerous condition of Blackett Street between lox and Bright streets. —Referred to Works Committee. Ihe Works Committee was authorised to re-deck bridge near Minehan’s, timber from Dinan s bridge if suitable to be utilised. Some discussion ensued respecting meetings of the Works Committee, and it was deemed essential that meetings be held at definite intervals. —It was resolved that the Works Committee meet on tile first and third Tuesdays and the Finance Committee once
monthly. 1 The Ranger reported impounding eleven cattle and seven horses. The Finance Committee reported a credit balance of £.133 2/7, making with Government subsidy £67 8/, a total of £2OO 10/7. Accounts totalling £ll4 8/6 were passed for payment. The Clerk submitted an estimate of receipts and expenditure for the current year, and this along with the Finance Committee’s report, was adopted. The Municipal Association wrote advising conference of delegates in Christchurch on July 18.—Received. The manager of the Gasworks wrote - confirming arrangements regarding the ; erection of lamp at corner of Clifford , and Fox streets. —Received. i R. Comerford wrote complaining of I muddy entrance to his property in I Bright Street. —Referred to Works ' Committee to have work carried out i on usual conditions. > Mrs Skelton wrote asking for timber I and gravel to construct approach to J her residence in Fox Street. —Referred to Works Committee. The Grey Patriotic Association i wrote inviting the Board to appoint a - delegate on the executive of the AssiU t ciation.—Resolved that the Chairman - represent the Board. 1 The Grey Hospital Board forwarded 1 statement of estimated receipts andex- ’ penditure for the year ended 31 arch , 31, 1924; file levy on the Town Disl trict this year will be £354 2/8. — Received. The Cobden Volunteer Fire Brigade * asked for subsidy to pay annual subscription to Fire Brigade Association, i —The Board has no power to recognise such liability, but it was resolved that a donation of £3 be made to the Fire Equipment Committee. The Grey Technical High School Board wrote asking for monetary support.—Resolved that £2 2/ be voted. From same re vacancy on Board.— A member was appointed to the electing committee. The Clerk was authorised to ascertain the cost of a road grader, horsedrawn.
