Mr J. S. Langford, manager and engineer - for the National Electrical Co., will arrive from Christchurch to-mor-row evening. Messrs H. J. and G. Bignell returned, from Christchurch on, Saturday evening. Senior-Sergeant P. J, McCarthy returned to Greymouth on Saturday, after being on relieving duty at Westport. .Mr S'., M. Horne (Wanganui) who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs IlSmith, Paroa, will return, via Christchurch, to-morrow morning. Misses Al.. and B. Thornton, who have been on holiday in the North Island, returned to Greymouth by Saturday evening’s express. The Hon C. IL. Izard has been granted leave of absence from the Legislative Council for the remainder of the session, owing to his absence from the Dominion. Archdeacon Carr left this afternoon fior Nelson to attend the Anglican Synod. Rev Bloyce of Reef ton, and Mr D. Hay, lay reader, of Ahaura, are also attending the Synod. Mr E. W. Burton, S.M., of Pukekohe, who is retiring from the. Bench, .as presented with a case, of pipes by members of the legal profession of the Franklin district Mr F. W. Penlington will' be. Acting Chief Postmaster at Wellington pending the appointment of a successor' to Mr H. D. Grocott, who has retired on superannuation. > Mr A. W. Webster, manager of the New Plymouth branch of the. Bank of New South Wales, will retire on July 31, after 45 years’ service with tne bank. Mr B. Topp (President) and Mr F. Turley (Secretary) of the Westland Timber Workers’ Union, left for Wellington on Saturday, to attend the Timber Workers’ Federations’ annual conference. i Mr. J. Strauchon, formerly Under'Svcretary of Lands, who is the Commissioner appointed to enquire into timber royalties arrived on Saturday evening and proceeded to Hokitika. He will visit Greymouth later. Mr Woods was engaged in loading logs on to the loco, trolley about 1 p.m. on Saturday, when a log slipped and pinned his arm.- He is progressing as well as can be expected. Mr T. W. Duff, chairman of the Westland County Council, and Mr D. J. Evans county clerk, returned to Hokitika ‘on Saturday evening after attending the Counties’ Conference at Christchurch. Mr. J. Higgins (Grey County Engineer) will return to Greymouth to-morrow' evening., Mr J. W, Hannan (Grey County Chairman) is visiting Auckland. Mr W. Campbell, on resigning from the Westport Coal Company’s staff, was presented with a safety razor as ( a mark of the esteem and regard of the management and staff. Mr Parker made the presentation and wished the recipient the best of good luck in his removal to New Plymouth. Mr Campbell later left by the Koiqata for Wellington en route to New Plymouth. Mr P. Chamberlin, representing the National Electrical Coy., has been in Greymouth for the past fortnight reporting on the hydro-electric scheme for the Greymouth Electric Power Board. He has obtained a great deal of information regarding the. possibilities of the Arnold River development and the probable load consumption of the district. He; hopes to have his work finished by next week. The wedding of Mr John, Ronaldo Bolitho, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Bolitho, of Black’s Point, Reef ton, ' and Miss Hazel Esther Coombes, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Coombes, of “The Pines,” Geraldine, took place recently at the Methodist Church, Geraldine, the R-ev J. KUUWII - day at Lower okatahi, aged 88 years. . She was a native of County Donegal, i Ireland, and had resided on the West ] Coast for nearly 60 years. She leaves a family of ten, including Mrs r. Monynihan (Kokatahi), Mrs Shaw 1 (Hokitika), Mrs Moynihan (Otira), and Mrs Swee.ney (Wellington); i Messrs Robert Cunningham (North Is- : land), Richard Cunninghani (Cobden), and Mr I. Cunningham (Kumara). There are also 36 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The funeral took place this afternoon at the Hokitika Cemetery. • At the Grey River Hospital, at 4.30 yesterday morning, the death occurred of Barbara, the wife of Mr Charles Lamont, hairdresser, Greymouth. Deceased was a, native of Edinburgh, 21 years of age, and- the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. S. Ellis, Albert Street. Before her marriage she was employed at Greymouth by the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, and was a general favourite with her fellowworkers, and numerous acquaintances. Deceased was admitted to the Grey River Hospital about a week ago, but "•radually became worse. Death was caused by Bright’s disease, which had reached a chronic stage. She loaves her husband, but no children; also her parents, and several brothers and sisters. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, leaving the residence ,f Mrs Lamont, senior, Preston Road, it-1.30 p.m. for Holy Trinity Church, thence to the Karoro Cemetery.
