Blackadder, coal lease in blk XV, Reefton S.D., 19 acres.—Granted. Leslie Gilsennan, timber warrant over 20 acres, blk VI., Reefton S.D. objected to by J. J. Doran. Withdrawn with consent of objector. Stephen Wright, timber warrant over 20 acres, blk VI., Reefton S.D.— Adjourned. J. J. Doran timber warrant over t acres, blk Vl.,’Reefton S.D.—Adjourned. A. R. Ayson, renewal of coal prospecting license for one year over 280 acres, blk X.. Reefton S.D.—Granted. Ferndale-Timaru Coal Coy., Ltd-, water-race of ten heads, blk XIV., Reefton S.D.—Granted for 21 years. Albert James Griggs, coal lease otfive acres at Merrijigs.—Adjourned. New Millerton Mines, Ltd., three prospecting lice.nses over 100 acres each blk XVI., Mawhera-iti S.D.—• Granted. W. J. Morris, certificate of protection for 14 days of sawmill license No. 4001, timber reservations Nos. 4004 and 4050, sawmill site 2908, and tramway license 2907. —Granted. A sitting of the Assessment Court was held yesterday morning when, argument was heard respecting the val- . iity of the Hospital rate being struck on the capital value instead of the unimproved rateable value of mining property. After hearing legal argument for and against the proposal, Mr Meldrum reserved his decision. In response to the representation o! the Reef ton Progress League the Mines Department has sent the following reply:—“ln continuation of my interim reply of 10th February to your Liter of the last idem, I have now to advise that the Minister of Mines has approved of the following subsidy for prospecting the Bull Reef at the Alex, ander River, viz : £B6 13s 4d for driving 200 feet at 8s 6d per foot, with aii additional 2s per foot where timbering is necessary. Mr P. O’Donnell, Hon Secretary of Blackwater Miners’ Association. Waiuta, has been advised to the above effect.” At the Magistrate’s Court, Before Mr AV. Meldruin, S.M., A. >J. Smith, for being drunk on Buller Road, was find £2, in default seven days in Greymouth Gaol For being on licensed premises during prohibited hours a resident was convicted and ordered to pay 7s costs ; another was lined £1 and costs. For allowing liquor to 100 consumed after hours, the licensee of the Exchange Hotel pleaded guilty ami was lined £1 and costs 7s. Three other charges arising out of tlv same incident were, withdrawn.
