HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY -MEETING. The Grey River Hospital Board held its monthly meeting to-day. Those present were. —The- Chairman (Mr. J. W. Hannan) and Messrs Wi H. Parfitt, F. Williams, A. Robinson, J. Greaney and the Rev. T. N. Cuttie. The Waipawa Hospital Board, Waipukuarau, asked support for the following resolutions, passed by the Board :— “That in view of the increasing number of phthisis pulmonary cases entering hospitals throughout the Dominion, representations be made to the Government with a view to such cases being admitted to Government sanatoria. without further charge being made on hospital boards, and that hospital board throughout the Dominion be asked for their support. ’ ’ “This is a very good idea”, said the Chairman. “We’ve been hammering at it for years,” said Mr. Cuttie. “I move that we support it.” The motion was seconded by Mr. Parfitt and carried.

The South Canterbury Board asked the Board’s support for the following resolution:

“That the attention of the Health Department be called to the urgent necessity for provision being made for the compulsory detention of tubercular cases in the curable stage of the disease and further that adequate provision be made for the care of incurable cases and that greater attention be paid to ensuring that the milk supply, a source of the disease, is free from the germs of tubeiclosis.” On Mr Cuttle’s motion, the resolution was supported. The Deputy Director-General of Health (Mr Jos. P. Frenglcy) wrote asking the Secretary to bring before the Board the question of capital proposals for 1922-23. If the sum total of the capital proposals throughout the Dominion said Mr .Fengley, were such that it was necessary to ask that all but the most urgent be postponed, the Department would then be able to come to an understanding with the Boards. “As far as I know we won’t have any capital requirements” said the Chairman. Mr Parfitt moved that the matter be referred to a small committee. Mr Williams : We certainly Want a secretary’s office up at the hospital?’

Mr Robinson : The office has to be gone on with. The motion was carried and the Chairman, Mr Williams and Mr Cuttie appointed as a committee. Robinson and Co. quoted coal at 22/6 per ton on tlie Greymouth wharf. “We are at present paying 23/9” said tlie Secretary. On the motion of Mr Cuttie seconded by Mr Robinson, it was decided to accept a trial quote for the next month.
