Reserved judgment by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., was given in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North in the case in which Walter Hall Webb, storekeeper of Tokomaru. was charged with selling liquor without a license (says a Press Association message). The defendant, said the Magistrate, was in the habit of accepting orders for beev ami stout, ami obtaining liquor from a brewery at Palmerston North. He carted the liquor back making a charge per gallon additional to the usual price. The Magistrate held that this constituted a. sale in centravention of Section 195 of the Licensing Ad, there being no contract between the the brewery, the latter looking to" the defendant for payment. The defendant was convicted on all charges and was lined on counsel’s request on one charge, £7 and costs, the other being adjourned, mention being made of an appeal.
