WATER SUPPLY

ECONOMY NECESSARY

“The water in the reservoir is goinj down fast,” said Mr C. McQueen (pumping egineer), when questioned by a “Star” reporter at 1 p.m. to-day. He stated that the depth at 8 a.m. was only eight feet.

The one engine working could not cope with the excessive amount of water being drawn off, and it was urgently necessary that consumers should respond to the appeal for economy. “We hope to have the second engine running some time to-mor-row. The repairs to the damage caused by the fire are proceeding night and day.” Pumping will be fully resunjed when the repairs are completed. Meanwhile, users of the Borough water supply are re quested to adopt the “go-slow” policy.
