THE NELSON MATCH

NELSON, January 30. The wicket was holding for the match, but the weather remained glorious. The Nelson-Alarlborough-West Coast combined team made 119 (Saxon 60, Keninitz 18).
The Englishmen made 202 for 7 wickets (W. Hill Wood 16, Wilkinson 52, Lowry 40, Chapman not out 41, Freeman 13, and B. Hill Wood not out 8).
Saxon gave a. good all-round display. The Englishmen scored freely, and their fielding was brilliant. The local team’s fielding was good.
For England, B. Hill Wood took 3 wickets for 22; Tyldesley 3 for 42; Freeman 3 for 10; and Brand 1 for 14. For the combined team Newman took 5 for 72 and Louisson 1 for 34. N-S.W. BEATS VICTORIA. .. w fri arian and N.Z. Cable Association.') SYDNEY, January 30. Victoria in the second innings scored 179 (Keating 34, Willis 23, and H'.artlwff 18). Scott took three for 56 and Alailcy five for 73. New South Wales won by an innings and 28 runs. The weather was fine and the wicket good. The batsmen played cautiously, hut the bowling of Mailey and Scott was irresisistible, and the match ended 75min. after the resumption.
WAIUTA v. REEFTON

Un Sunday last the Reefton and Waiuta cricket clubs played a, match at Waiuta, which resulted in a win for Waiuta. by 79 runs. The day was fine except for one tropical shower during the lunch adjournment. For Reefton, Bartlett and Paul batted well, reaching double figures. Ram-
sey was batting well and with confidence until he played one of Fitzgerald's balls on to his wicket. He also secured six wickets for 33 runs. The Waiuta batting was good all round. The feature of the match was the come-back of J. Fitzgerald, the veteran of the chib compiling 23 Jims not out, and playing first class cricket all round the wicket. lie was heartily cheered by the spectators. Fitzgerald is regarded as one of the best sports to wield the willow on the hill-top. 'the best hitting seen here was by a young coll, F. Thorne, who hit eight fours and made 22 runs in the first over of that beader howler, Roy Bartlett. This hoy, who made the highest score on the day’s play, has a. promising future.
