At Newcastle she will complete the discharge of timber loaded at Greymouth, and will then proceed to Port Stephens to load poles for New Zealand. Mr. B. S. Pacific Coast advices state that leading steamship commercial niterests there are getting data relative to American trade with Australasia, with the idea of asking the United States Shipping Board to provide additional tonnage for the Australian trade. Another vessel to be launched at Palmer’s yards, Jarrow-on-Tyne, is the steel passenger and cargo vessel Automedon for the Ocean Steam-hip Company. This extensive shipbaild ing yard has put out many vessels for the New Zealand run, including the Maimoa, launched in 1920, and I ne Langdon Hall, launched in 1921. The new vessel, which is of the two-deck type, having poop bridge and lorecastle, is designed to carry about 10000 tons dead-weight. Accommodation for a limited number of passengers is provided in the ! tween deck space and forecastle, while there are six cargo holds, one of which is insulated, for carrying perishable cargo. Her single screw will be driven by double reduc-tion-geared turbines, of Parson’s impulse reaction type, supplied and lilted by her builders.
