The New South Wales bowlers will arrive, in Westport on Sunday, February 11, and will play Westport Club on the morning of the 12th, proceeding to Greymouth after lunch. They leave for Christchurch on Tuesday morning, where they remain from the 14th to 17th, leaving that day for Oamaru. The committee of tho Greymouth Bowling Club are endeavouring to have a game with them after their arrival from Westport. The names of the players are. E. Collins, J. Wall, E. A." Palmer, F. A. Cummings, L. Arnott, and J. Nicholas. There are also twelve ladies in the party. Tho following should prove interesting reading to local players wno do not observe the ‘‘foot on tho mat” rule:—“During two days’ play, Ingram (Wellington) was repeatedly warned, and had his bowls ‘burned’ by tho umpire on several occasions, but ho simply would not comply -with the rule. Umpires on the various greens have been very busy watching the players to keep them up to the mark on. this rule. Ono player was much chagrined to see a ‘toucher’ called off when he was three shots down, on account of infringement.” A good example of a game being pulled out of the fire came under notice in a section of the pairs at Reni uera. Fred Parsons, of Remuera, was 12 up and 4 heads to go on Proctor, of Remuera (late of Christchurch) who is now resident in Auckland, and plays a game of high order. Proctor put on a 3,1, and 2, and wanted 6 to tie on the last end. Jim Vuglar, his lead, lay two, and his skip drew four beauties, whilst Parsons failed to get near. A tie and a play-off saw Proctor and his mate win a highly sensational game.
