Patterson won the second 11/9. Johnston won the third 4/1 playing to Patterson’s back-hand and keeping him rm the defensive. Johnston was the fourth 4/1 and the fifth 4/1 on placements. Johnston won the sixth game 6/4 on ■ Patterson's nets. Johnston was at the top of his form, but Patterson was erratic. Tho latter won the seventh 4/2 on Johnston’s 1 service. Anderson had so far played up to the form ho'had shown when he defeated Tilden last year, but he now began to fall off.
