Costello (reports the ‘Express’) was performing some soldering repairs to a big benzine reservoir _of the type which is carried at the rear of most motor cars, when a violent explosion occurred. The petrol had been drawn out of the tank, but apparently the dregs were of considerable quantity, and their ignition from 'the red-h'ot soldering iron caused the explosion. The ends of the tank were blown clean out. One feund an exit via the roof, taking two sheets of corrugated iron in its course. The partitions riveted in the tank were tom out. Mr. Costello was thrown violently to the floor, but apart from the searing of the front of his vest and a blow on the throat lie escaped unscratched. A good deal o humour and some excellent local hits were imparted into the disci’ssioi which was very much enjoyed by all.
