REEFTON

(Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, June 26. 3lrs E. J. Conway, who has been on an extended visit to her daughters in Wellington, returned to Reefton by Thursday night’sXXelsoii car. The heavy frosts of tho last two or three weeks broke on Friday, since which time copious rain has fallen. This will be of

great benefit everywhere, particularly at Big River (where the battery was stopped for want of water) and at Waiuta, where residents had to carry water in buckets some distance for domestic use. On Friday night the members of Knox Presbyterian Church farewelled Air W. 11. Nicholas, who leaves on Tuesday for Ohakune, where he has accepted a position as home missioner. During the evening eulogistic references were made to Mr Nicholas’s connection with the Church, Sunday School and United Bible class, and on behalf of the members and adherents he was presented wit ha wallet well filled with bank notes, and wished God speed in his future home. Mr Nicholas replied, thanking all for the present and their kindly reference. The evening was then devoted to harmony, and a musical programme rendered, the entertainment concluding with a nicely prepared supper bein dispensed by the ladies. The match between the Blackball and Reefton ladies’ clubs took place on the racecourse on Saturday afternoon. A good game was anticipated, despite the incessant rain that fell during the match, and in this the large concourse of spectators were not disappointed. The first spell ended without any score and the second nearly concluded before Miss Lockington was successful in scoring, leaving the Reeftonites the winners by one goal to nil. It was a hard fought game, and played in the best of spirits. The Reefton team had somewhat the best of the play, but the. water on the ground prevented any brilliant play.
