“DIPPING NOSES”

- AIAORI LAND cOURT INCIDENT. DUNEDIN, June 22. ‘'Unfortunately some of tho Alaoris who come to town to attend the sit ting of the Native Land Court appear to have abandoned the ancient practice of rubbing noses for the more exhilarating one of dipping noses into glasses.” Thus Air Ramsay, counsel for Henry Parata, who was fined 10/- for drunkenness this morning. I'arata, once stood for the Southern AJaori elector ate. Parata was then taken before Judge Gilfedder, of. the Native Land Court, to answer for his conduct yesterday, when ho interrupted the proceedings in that Court in no uncertain, manner. Air Ramsay said that Parata ngretted his conduct, and wished to apolo-

gise. He felt his position very keenly. Judge Gilfedder said he was pleased to know that the medicine administered had done good, and that Parata was not quite so pugnacious as he had been yesterday. “You are in the habit of coming into this Court in a dmnken condition,” lie added, “and making a nuisance of yourself. I have the power to suspend you from coining here at all, but knowing your weakness, and that you were labouring under the difli culty of having too much drink, and so unable to control yourself, I will accept your* apology. But remember this: If you come into the Court again in a state of intoxication, you will be severely dealt with.” The penitent Parata thanked his Honour and left.
