MIDNIGHT OUTRAGES.
HEAVY ARSON LOSSES.

It is alleged that a force of Ulster “special” constables entered a house in County Louth, at Dromintree, on the Ulster border, and abused some Catholic girls who were the sole occupants of the place. Arising out of tms the Ulster constabulary had a three ’ hours’ light against Republican irregulars at Dromintree. The casualties were numerous. A patrol of Ulster constabulary was ambushed at Forkhill, South Armagh, one being killed and one injured. Armed Sinn Feiners ran amok at Bessbrook, South Armagh, during the night, shooting dead four men and one woman, and wounding two men. All were Protestants. The raiders roved the country side and dragged victims from bed, or shot them as they stood in their night clothes then bombing them. They set fire to their houses. Other families fled panic stricken through fields. Raiders pursuing, shot at them- A most wicked attack was against a cottage occupied by an elderly man and bis wife, who were shot side by side. Several children were injured through liies. Wholesale reprisals are feared. Over a million pounds worth of property was destroyed by incendiaries in Belfast during the last fortnight.
PROGRESS OF ELECTIONS. LONDON, June 17. The polling in Ireland is proceeding quietly. it- is somewhat apathetic, ft is believed that it favours the panel (Coalition) candidates. A noteworthy feature is the large number of w-umen voters. At Sligo East and Mayo several agents of Independent candidates have been kidnapped, and their whereabouts are. unknown. Results for four seats in the Dail Eireann for the Irish National University, are announced. Two Independent candidates, besides a panel of two Treatyites and two Republicans. The result is the election of two Treatyites, one Republican, and one of the* two Independent Treatyites. After the votes Mere counted, Itoiy O’Connor and twelve others raided the premises and carried off the ballot boxes. REPUBLICANS’ ATTITUDE. _ _ LONDON, June 17. The Daily News’ Dublin correspondent states : The Irish Republicans will reject the proposed constitution in toto, '['here is no hope of any peaceful arrangement between the Treatyites and the Republicans.
