Mrs Hogg, of Ruru, was hostess on Monday last when a pleasant musical evening was spent at her residence. Misses Kerr and L. Kennedy together with Mr Hope rendered vocal items. Mr Brown was at the piano. Among those presnt were Misses M. Southern, Kennedy and Kerr and Messrs Robinson, Hope and Brown. Mr Quinn, of Nelson Creek, was a week-end visitor to Ruru. A meeting of the Ruru-Moana Schools Committee was held in the Ruru school room on Tuesday evening. Mr J. Williams was in the chair. The resignation of Miss Kerr, the teacher of Ruru school was accepted' with much regret. It is understood that Miss Kerr intends to take up a similar position in the Wanganui or Auckland districts. Miss Kerr has been teaching at Ruru for the past two years and her departure will be deeply felt. Te Kinga v. Bell Hill, “LumberJack” witnessed the game played at Bell Hill during the last week end. To Kinga were fortunate in taking the honours. Points were Te Kinga 14, Bell Hill 3. Although To Kinga secured more points against Bell Hill than did Ruru the. previous week Ruru supporters are confident that when Te Kinga and Ruru meet the latter will still maintain their unbeaten record. A boxing class has been opened up at Ruru under the direction of Messrs J. Hinds and J. Sheldon. It is rumoured that ere long many budding Dempseys from this class will bo making their appearance in public. A euchre drive was held at Moana on June 1, Mrs Boddy was the winner of the ladies’ prize and Mrs Simpson took the booby. Messrs Magee and C. Kennedy were winners of the respective prizes for the gentlemen.
