GLENGARRY BLOCK

SETTLERS’ DIFFICULTIES. DANNEVIKKE, March 23. A deputation of soldier-settlers on the .Glengarry Block was introduced to the Al mister of Lands to-day by Mr A. AlcNicol, M.P. Mr Guthrie listened to the representation made by tho settlers, and on their behalf in favour of an early revaluation of the lilock, it being unanimously contended that at the present rentals and prices of produce the men had no hope of making a. reasonable success of their holdings. The Minister, in the course of a sympathetic reply, said that Loth ho and the Land Board would give tho settlers all the assistance in their power to help the mover their difficulties. Returned soldier-settlers, however, were not the only ones affected by the slump. All farmers and tho country generally were feeling the pinch, Jbut the outlook was now improving. The. Government had not ■wanted to buy alFthe land offered for soldier-settlement, but, many cases its hands had been forced by ap insistent demand for land._ Tile Glengarry settlemet had been purchased at the then ruling price, and that was the first time he had hfjard that the price was too high. He could not swallow a statement that the value would have to be reduced to 66 per cent. He would have to stand by the law regarding revaluation, but would do everything reasonable to help tho soldiers to make a success of their farms.
