BRITISH POLITICS

— —< CONSERVATIVES AND LIBERALS SPEECH BY MR. CHURCHILL. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association J LONDON, March 25. Rt. Hon. AV. Churchill, speaking at Northampton, said that it had been suggested that those who advocated the creation of a National Party from the Coalition had a deep design against the unity of the Conservative Party. He emphasised that it would be a great disaster if the Conservative Party was broken up. That would be a prelude to the creation of a number of jealous, discordant groups such as were seen in foreign Parliaments '1 united only by intrigues to gain g power. e He saw no reason why the Liberals [_ and Conservatives could not work together during the anxious period ahead as they had done during the 11 past seven years. The old quesTions - which divided the old historic groups e were no longer dominant dividing t issues of politics; even Ireland was not a party issue. The Liberals owed a debt of gratitude to the Conservatives for the great aid given in the settlement of the Irish question. The Conservatives’ faith and the Liberals’ principles were both exposed to a new attack from the Socialist parties behind which crouched j the shadows of Communist folly and Bolshevik violence. Churchill’s praise of the Conservatives Party and suggest that he is preparing to rejoin the Conserva- , fives if the Coalition breaks up.
