EVADING DUTIES
EXTENSIVE PLOT ALLEGED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association Recd 9.20 a.m. NEW YORK, 17. lhe Federal authorities are investigating an alleged plot to cheat the Government of one million dollars duties on wool imported from South America. It is learned that the vrool was imported as low grade material for the manufacture of carpets, which are non-dutiable, An examination proved that the wool was of the highest quality, dutiable .at thirty cents per pound. 'One Shipment escaped duty of 450,000 dollars.
