ABOUT TO FOUNDER
PERTH’S HULL IN SHREDS
Exactly four months after the day she struck the bar November 13 the wrecked Perth entered yesterday on another stage of her dissolution. Melancholy at any time, the battered hulk now presents a spectacle that is decidedly gloomy. Her remaining mast was torn from the deck by the heavy seas that swept the vessel yesterday morning, and later in the day she broke aft at the place where the split occurred recently, and at low tide the boilers can be seen quite plainly. To those not acquainted with Die strong build of the vessel the staunc i manner in which she has braved the strong seas that have swept about her during these months is a source ot wonder. A weaker vessel would have been in pieces weeks ago. lher e is little doubt, however, that the next sou-westerly wind will throw the keel off, and the Perth will sink from view. A northerly wind, on the other ham , will, it is expected, throw part ot the vessel into the channel whicii would occasion some trouble to tne authorities.
