MAKURA CLUB’S GALA. That Greymouth people are all interest ed in the efforts of the ladies to rais funds for the beautifying of the surround n ings of their lawns was proved by th p large attendance on Saturday. Blair. e The target competition was very keenb fought, but the very straight eye of M: , Blackwood proved too deadly even for tlu - best croquet players, and making a goo< score of 25 out of a possible 28, he peggec - the pize for this event. i' The ever popular putting was very wel • patronised, and three players (strange ti say, all golfers) made the excellent score , of 6. 'lhese were -Miss Hannan, Messrs L Meldrutn and Pratt. They played off and Mr Meldrum putted the prize. The single golf croquet was won by Mrs Shallcrass. ■ ami in the double the following have to play off dming the coming week Mes- ' dames Boss and Thomas, Mrs McKay and -Mr Blackwood, -Mrs Teunent and -Mr Oxford, -Miss N. The Committee wish to thank all members and friends who helped to make Saturday such a successful day, also all those who sent cakes, etc., to the produce stall. A special word of thanks is due to the untiring work of Mr D. McKay, who is always there when the Croquet Club needs assistance, also to the large number of bowlers and tennis members who attended. The beautiful piece of work donated by Mrs Ross, was won by Mrs Graham.
