The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed assets to be £1577 Ils (cash in hand £32 11s llJ>d) and liabilities £52. “I might say that had the Borough Council came to light with its donation,” said the Secretary (Mr Compton), “we would not have had a deficit of £l9 8s Oid/’

The Mayor said that there was nothing to be ashamed of. It was a fine balancesheet, and there were very few organisations not in debt to some extent. In moving the adoption of the balance-sheet the Alayor said that the band was in a very creditable position.

Continuing. Mr Comp- | ton said that he would like to see all | financial responsibility transferred from | the band to a committee of honorary I members. He thought also that it was ” time an effort was made to give the honorary members the three concerts to i which they were entitled. Air Compton concluded by saying that he did not see why a rate should not be struck for the. band instead of expecting it to exist on the Borough Council’s £6O a year! (Laughter).
