LAST EVENING'S MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Grey School Committee was held nisi evening, rie.-eiil ; Messrs I', .Mackenzie pmairmaiq, J. I cunent, IL McGiegor, T. tollins, J. Weaver, R. J. Williams, and W. Blair (secietaryj. The Lector reported as follows:—’ .tno attendance, wilii the exception oi that on two wet. days, has been very good. In spite of tiie inclement weather the Fair was a decided sucee.-s from the financial side. The gross takings amounted to £54 10s Gil, with expenses under £5. 'J lie pupils are to be congratulated" on the keenness they displayed, and the parents on their inte.est and support. The school lioms naturally suffered, and 1 would recommend a grant to the caretaker for the extra labour m cleaning. As a new room has been added his duties will now extend to the cleaning of this, and his remuneration should be increased accordingly. Miss Hopkins has been temporarily appointed as an extra assistant m the -Secondary Department, and there is the possibility of an increase in the staff if the Primary Department to meet the in-c-ieased attendance. 'The supply of tehoo: rol :ler towels needs replenishing, many of tmrni being tom and threadbare..” .Mr Tennent said that it was very satisfactory to note the improved attendance • also the splendid Jesuit of the School Fair, de.-1 ite wet weather. The Chairman suggested that the matter ct higher remuneration be held over lor consideration. Mr Weavej- moved that the Chairman and .Mr Tennent make enquiries and report to next meeting. The motion was seconded by Mr C-Ti.ts and carried. Mr Weaver reported that, he had Wsitcd both schools. At the State School the only requirement was towels. The requirements at Blaketown were an extra talfle and chair. Other work there had been attended 10. lie moved that towels and the table and chair be procured. The motion was seconded by Mr leniient and carried, and the Rector’s report was adopted. Mr Tennent moved a vote of thanks to Mr Weaver for his report. —Carried. The Secretary of the Canterbury Education Board wrote stating that the Committee’s recommendations in connection with the Seddon Memorial Medals had been sent on for consideration. Received. Messrs Blair and Tennent were apappointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. Accounts amounting to £44 5s were passed for payment. It was reported that the credit balance was £137 Us sd.
