ADDINGTON MARKET. (Special to the Star.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 26. Messrs Dalgety and Coy, Ltd., report .on the Addington market: Good entry of fat cattle with prices again slightly easier; best steers made to £lB ss, good £l3 to £l6 10s, medium £lO to £l2 10s, light £6 10s to £9 10s, best cows £7 10s to £ll ss, others £5 to £7. Fat Sheep: A small entry, and the market opened, in advance on last week's prices and continued strong throughout. All classes of fat sheep were about 2/- per head dearer; best wethers to 295, good 24s to 275, lighter sorts 20s io 255. A very small yarding of store sheep with a. belter tone throughout, and prices a shade firmer. A good entry of store cattle, mostly young sorts and heifers, with a fair demand,, at last, week’s rates ; 3-year steers £4 6s (o £6, yearling heifers £1 15s to £2 ss, 2-year heifers £4 to £4 9s. Best dairy cattle sold well. A double market will be held next "Wednesday and there will be no sale during Show' Week. The National Mortgage and Agency Coy Ltd., reports: At. Addington to-day there was a full yarding of beef, including lines from the North Island, extra prime, wore equal to 37/6 per 100 lbs, prime 35/-. others from 30/- to 32 6. The best price was £lB ss, but the average for prime lots was £l2 to" £l6 10s, heifers to £l5 2s 6d ; unfinished consignments were neglected. The market was variable but firmer in tone with good competition for anything good in the store sheep section; better demand for wethers, ewes and lambs, witli easily a 1/- advance. A much better tone but medium yarding of fat sheep, the average rise being 1/6. Butchers’ competition was brisk; best wethers 29/6 to 33/-, prime 25,- to 29/- medium 21/6 to 24/6, best ewes to 25/10, medium 18/- to 20/- ; prime hoggets to 19/6. A'ery little doing in store cattle. A small yarding and prices improved. There is still a good demand for young dairy cows. ?Jessrs 11 Matson and Coy report : Store Sheep : Tho smallest yarding for some considerable time and a general improvement all round, best wethers 13/6 to 15/6, others from 11/6, ewes and lambs up to 13/6. No hoggets were yarded as owing to the abundance of feed, most, owners are holding to shear . Beef: A similar yarding to last week, with the market Very irregular, but all round slightly easier than last week consignments were yarded from the North Island and Southland. The market firmed towards the finish; prime steers £l3 to £l6 10s, medmm £lO to £l2 15s, others £6 10s to £9 10s; extra prime to £lB ss, prime heifers £8 10s to £l3, extra to £l5 2s 6d, Others £6 10s to £8 ss, prime cows £7 10s to £l.l ss, others £5 to £7 4s. Store Cattle. —A fairly large yarding, with quality very mixed, and nio.stlv made up of young sorts; hellers were in good demand, but steers wore hard to sell ; yearling heifers 45/- to 55/-, 2-year-old £4 10s to £5 ss, yearling steers 12/6 to 20/-, 3-year-ohl ditto £4 to £4 16s, good youngcows £2 10s to £3 7s 6d, others, 10s to 355. Million: A. fairly large yarding, and. butchers bought Irccly. In anticipation of next,, week being a double ■market, several lots of southern sheep were offering. The market opened firm and improved as the sale progressed and finished up 2s to 3s above the opening rates; fair wethers 23s to 28s, extra to 335, medium 20/6 to 22/6, others 18s to 20s, best ewes to 25/9, shorn wethers 20/- to 24/3. It was the best sale all round for some considerable time.

CATTLE FOR BURNSIDE. (Special to Star.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 26. At Burnside (Dunedin) markets today, a line of 100 head of three and four year-old bullocks was included in the yarding of store cattle. These camo from Okura on the West Coast. They wei;Q driven overland to Lauder, a distance of about 150 miles, in nine days, and were then railed to Burnside. Tho consignment arrived in splendid condition and claimed a great deal of attention, but the prices realised were not very satisfactoiy to the owner. It was one of the finest lines of store cattle yet offered at Burnside. TOTARA FLAT. Tho National Mortgage and Agency Coy, held a special sale of dairy cows at. Totara Flat saleyards yesterday. 42 cows and heifers were yarded and the bidding throughout was keen, everything being sold under the hammer. The prices realised were: Cows just calved £5 10s, up to £l3 ss. Cows at the drop £5 7s 6d to £l2 17s; 6d Heifers just calved £5 7s 6d to £9 12s 6d. Heifers at the drop £8 to £9 15s.
