Samuel Grassam charged that he was £8 13s in arrears for maintenance, appeared before Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court today. . , - ■ : Samuel Grassam said he had paid in maintenance for the last three months £l9 15s, having earned £24 9s 4d. Magistrate :Why haven’t you paid the 35/- per week. Defendant: I haven’t been able to do so. The defendant went on to explain that he was an inmate of the;Hospital at the present time and would not be able to work for some time. '• Asked if she had any questions to put to the witness, Mrs. Grassam said that since the new order had been taken out she had seen him beating carpets and taking'fruiti to Mrs. j- —. He had sa7d to her'previously that he wanted the separation" because he loved another woman and was “sick of me and the children.” The Magistrate said ho would adjourn the case for further information. ’ “You had better try and catch up ii the payments,” concluded his Worsiup addressing Grassam. “Don’t know when that’ll be, I’m sure,” replied Grassam, stepping out of the witness box.
