(By “Narakin.”) The following nominations have been received for the— NEW ZEALAND CUP (in harness), of 2500 : sovs. ; class,- 4.33; 2 miles. C. Chaunings Agathos, aged. Miss N. aged. J. 11. Lloyd’s Hal Junior, 6 yrs G. Booker’s Oinako', aged.

The above number total 18, or three more than the entries for last year. Included in the list are Trix Pointer and Author Dillon, two previous winners, and Steel Bell, a winner of the Auckland Trotting Cup. As all of the remainder have excellent recommendations the race should be the keenest seen at Addington. As usual, Bryce holds the strongest hand in point of numbers. His entries are Matchligbt, Moneymaker and Erin’s Queen. Emilias, in the same stable, just missed qualifying by a fraction 1 of a second.

Most of the horses who raced at Addington during the month are now spelling prior to again being taken up for the Cup meeting. Michael Galindo, who was a bright star on the trotting track a few years ago, will be put into work again shortly, and should lie train on fresh records can be looked for.

That progressive body, the Auckland Trotting Club, is again to the fore with a great increase in the stake money. This season they will distribute £22,000, an increase of £7,000 on last year. The Cup will be endowed to the extent of £2,660, the Summer Cup and President’s Handicap will be worth £IOOO, and a like amount will be given for the Great Northern Derby of 1Q22. The object of this Club*is that each stake should be sufficient to keep a horse for a year, and the idea is a sound one.

Arthur Cox is busy with some of his trotters-for the Coast meeting in October, and from reports to hand already there will be a very strong invasion for our Spring meeting, both as regards pacers and trotters. Very little work of any interest is being done at the Park so far, as most of the local horses are still very rough, and there is ample time to send them along.
