STATE MINERS
CONFERENCE TO-DAY WITH GENERAL "MANAGER. PROBABLE RESUMPTION. OF WORK TO-MORROW. "In all probability the £hate miners will resume work to-morrow," was the statement made by a high official ;o a Greymouth Evening Star reporter to-day. Mr. I. A. Jams, general manager of State Mines arrived overland n-oiti Christchurch yesterday and met the representatives of. the Miners' Union to-day. The only point in dispute was the question of the time of 'starting the tram in the morning and returning in the evening. The traffic manager and district engineer were also present at the interview, which, it was stated was most satisfactory. The matter of timetable was fully discussed and, although reticence was displayed by those interviewed pending the result of a meeting of the miners union this afternoon, the satisfactory nature of the interview would tend to show that the men's demands have been more or less acceded to. It will be remembered that they expressed their firm determination not to accede to any suggestion of a train earlier than 6.35 a.m. and leaving the mine later than 4.40 p.m. The State Mine has already been idle for eight days which on an average of 700 tons per day means a loss in output of 5,600 tons.
When the whole question of the deliberations have been placed before the men at the meeting to be held this afternoon a decision will be arrived at, and, as staled, there is every probability, judging from the meagre information to hand, of work being resumed to-morrow.
